Newsletter layout as IDML for InDesign, plus the print PDF
A two-page A4 newsletter as an IDML file, which opens in InDesign as an editable document, with paragraph styles, threaded text frames, and linked images, plus the PDF as a proof.
Sample work (demo), not a client job. Built as a trial task with invented example data; the check figures below come from the automatic test run and are not polished.
What was built
- Structure checked against the IDML specification: references, IDs, threaded frames, page dimensions, and frame positions
- Paragraph and character styles, CMYK and RGB color swatches, text frames threaded across two pages
- Images are linked in the Links folder next to the file; PDF as a proof

Generated without InDesign and not opened in Adobe InDesign itself; read by Scribus 1.6.6 (IDML import). Delivery is .idml and PDF, no native .indd.
How it was checked
Automatic test run on 2026-10-31, taken from the log (test data invented, figures measured):
- IDML 2 pages A4 (595.276x841.89 pt), 14/14 specification checks, frames/pages accurate to 0.0004 pt, 2 images linked, PDF 2 pages 0.0 pt deviation, text complete
- Scribus-1.6.6-IDML-Import: 2 pages, {'6': 3, '4': 4, '2': 2}
Limits
What this sample does not cover, so nobody expects more:
- NOT opened in Adobe InDesign itself (no license) - checked against the IDML specification, additionally with Scribus 1.6.6 (independent IDML import)
- Delivery is .idml (InDesign opens and saves it as .indd) plus PDF; no native .indd and no work in the customer's account
- The PDF is typeset with Chromium: line breaks may differ slightly from InDesign; colors CMYK->RGB without ICC profile
- Fonts must be installed at the customer's site (Georgia/Arial in the sample); images are linked in Links/ next to the .idml
- Not included: tables, style groups, layers other than one, transparency/effects, indexes/tables of contents
