Appointments from Excel or CSV as a calendar file (.ics)
An appointment list from Excel or CSV becomes a calendar file for Outlook, Google, and Apple. Special characters, line breaks, time zones, and daylight saving time were checked during reading back.
Sample work (demo), not a client job. Built as a trial task with invented example data; the check figures below come from the automatic test run and are not polished.
What was built
- Input: a table with title, date, start, end, location, and description
- Output: a calendar file according to the iCalendar standard, with time zone specification
- All-day and multi-day appointments, texts with commas, semicolons, and line breaks

How it was checked
Automatic test run on 2026-10-31, taken from the log (test data invented, figures measured):
- 7 appointments from XLSX and CSV -> byte-identical termine.ics (102 lines, 1 folded, all <= 75 octets, CRLF)
- parsed back: texts with ,;\ and break identical, UTC from VTIMEZONE-RRULE = tzdata = target values (changeover 25.10.2026: 4.5 h, New York EDT, March 2027 CEST), all-day/multi-day correct
Limits
What this sample does not cover, so nobody expects more:
- Import into Outlook/Google/Apple Calendar not automatically clicked - the file is checked against RFC 5545 (custom check, icalendar package not installed)
- VTIMEZONE rules stored for Europe/Berlin and America/New_York; additional time zones must be added (in case of an unknown zone, the writer aborts instead of silently using UTC)
- no recurring appointments (RRULE in VEVENT), no invitations/attendees (METHOD:REQUEST), no reminders other than calendar standards
- nothing sent and no calendar account touched
