Runbook: Operating manual with commands, expected values, and recovery

For a fictional operation: a runbook for a demo service with daily checks, every command with an expected result, backup including verification, recovery, and typical error patterns. An included checker rejects a vague runbook.

Sample work (demo), not a client job. Built as a trial task with invented example data; the check figures below come from the automatic test run and are not polished.

What was built

  • Every step with command and expected result
  • Backup with verification and recovery
  • Error patterns with cause and action
  • Service and operation are fictional

How it was checked

Automatic test run on 2026-10-31, taken from the log (test data invented, figures measured):

  • Demo runbook with 8 sections, commands with expected values, daily backup including verification, recovery, and 5 error patterns
  • 9 checks, counter-check fails

Limits

What this sample does not cover, so nobody expects more:

  • Commands are intended for Linux/systemd/nginx/SQLite; other environments require adaptation
  • We do not execute anything on the customer's server without their access; the commands are not tested on a customer server
  • Access credentials are never included in the document
