Setting up WordPress plugin: redirects installed, configured, and verified via request

A ready-made redirect plugin is installed, activated, and configured on a fresh WordPress copy, with one fixed rule and one rule with a wildcard. Each rule was verified via request, including a control test without the plugin.

Sample work (demo), not a client job. Built as a trial task with invented example data; the check figures below come from the automatic test run and are not polished.

What was built

  • Plugin installed, activated, and set up, settings read back
  • Fixed redirect and redirect with wildcard
  • External addresses and the login page remain untouched
  • Control test without the plugin shows that the redirect comes from the plugin

How it was checked

Automatic test run on 2026-10-31, taken from the log (test data invented, figures measured):

  • Simple 301 Redirects 2.1.1 installed+activated+configured on WordPress 7.1.3
  • 11/11 HTTP checks green (fixed + wildcard rule 301, external address 404, control test without plugin 404)

Limits

What this sample does not cover, so nobody expects more:

  • Local copy with SQLite instead of MySQL and php -S instead of Apache/nginx - .htaccess rules and server caches of a real hoster are not part of the test
  • Setup via WP-CLI and options; for customer sites without shell access, this is done via wp-admin (same options) - with customer credentials, never without
  • Tested on one plugin (Simple 301 Redirects); every plugin has its own options - reading documentation/code is part of the work
  • Licensed premium plugins require the customer's license key
