YouTube thumbnail: two variants, checked for legibility at feed size

A thumbnail made from archive material in two color variants for an A/B test. The headline is checked at the size viewers actually see, and the person can be isolated for custom layouts.

Sample work (demo), not a client job. Built as a trial task with invented example data; the check figures below come from the automatic test run and are not polished.

What was built

  • Large headline with outline and shadow, one color accent, subject large in the frame
  • Two variants for testing, same subject, different text color
  • Legibility checked automatically at feed size, not by eye
  • Material public domain (NASA); for client work, the channel's own material is used

How it was checked

Automatic test run on 2026-10-31, taken from the log (test data invented, figures measured):

  • 2 variants 1280x720 (A/B), feed size 246x138 readable via RapidOCR, contrast >= 7:1, <= 4 words, person isolated (mask 20% of the box)

Limits

What this sample does not cover, so nobody expects more:

  • Text must match the video (no clickbait) - checked by the brief, not the sample
  • Material: freely licensed, own renders, or from the client
