Industry Calculation: Tiler Offer in Excel with Real Formulas
Rooms with sloping ceilings and openings translate into materials, packages, working time, and offer. The Excel workbook calculates with real formulas and matches an independent recalculation down to the exact cent.
Sample work (demo), not a client job. Built as a trial task with invented example data; the check figures below come from the automatic test run and are not polished.
What was built
- Surfaces with sloping ceilings and openings, waste, and full packages
- Discount tiers and small quantity surcharge as rules, not hardcoded
- If a rule in the workbook is changed, Excel recalculates everything

Prices, consumption values, and time estimates are examples and come from the company in a real order. The formulas were evaluated using a Python package, not in Excel itself.
How it was checked
Automatic test run on 2026-10-31, taken from the log (test data invented, figures measured):
- 32 rooms in 20 orders (tiler), target independently in cm/fractions with polygon areas
- Error types 6/6 detected, 5 sloping ceilings, discount tiers [0.0, 0.02, 0.03, 0.05], small quantity 2x, 10-m2 limit, full packages 5x. Calculation core exactly = target (0 deviations)
Limits
What this sample does not cover, so nobody expects more:
- Rules, prices, consumption values, and time estimates are provided by the client; the values here are examples. No guarantee for standards (DIN 18352/VOB C, measurement rules such as over-measuring small openings) ...
- Geometry simplified: rectangular floor plan, at most one sloping ceiling on one long side, up to 3 openings per room, one tile format per room (wall and floor identical); skirting boards, jambs ...
- The Excel formulas were evaluated with the Python package 'formulas', not in Microsoft Excel or LibreOffice (neither available here); only standard functions are used (IF, OR, AND ...
- Excel calculates in floating point: before any rounding up, ROUND(x;9) is placed as protection against 10.0000000001 -> 11, cent amounts are rounded via ROUND(ROUND(x*100;7);0)/100 (the first run showed 8 ...
- Commercial rounding per room (hours, wages) and per order (discount, VAT); whoever rounds per position or only on the final total must specify this
- Offer is a draft without company letterhead/terms and conditions/validity period; no shipping, no electronic invoice (XRechnung/ZUGFeRD)
